Integrating Novella with Zapier

This guide shows how to connect Novella to Zapier so you can automate actions based on survey activity and feedback.

What you can do with this integration

You can use Novella in Zapier for common workflows such as:

  • sending alerts when new responses arrive,
  • routing low scores to support or success workflows,
  • notifying teams when surveys are published,
  • adding survey responses to Google Sheets
  • create tasks in project management tools
  • creating respondents in Novella from data in other tools.

Before you start

  • Make sure you can access Settings → Integrations in Novella.
  • Make sure you have a Zapier account.
  • Decide the workflow you want to automate before creating your Zap.

Connect Novella to Zapier

  1. In Novella, go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. In the Zapier section, click Connect Zapier.
  3. Complete the Zapier authorization flow.
  4. Return to Novella and confirm it shows as connected.

Create your first Zap

  1. In Zapier, click Create Zap.
  2. Choose Novella as the trigger or action app.
  3. Select the event you want (for example, New Response).
  4. Connect your Novella account if prompted.
  5. Test the trigger/action in Zapier.
  6. Add the next step(s) in your workflow (Slack, email, CRM, project tool, etc.).
  7. Turn on your Zap.

Example automations

  • Post every new response to a Microsoft Teams channel.
  • Create a support ticket for low-score feedback.
  • Notify account owners when a survey is published.
  • Create or enrich contacts from new Novella respondents.

Troubleshooting

I can’t connect Novella in Zapier

  • Confirm you started from Settings → Integrations in Novella.
  • Disconnect and reconnect Novella, then retry in Zapier.
  • If it still fails, contact your Novella workspace admin.

My Zap test returns no records

  • Generate a fresh test event in Novella (for example, submit a new response).
  • Re-run the test in Zapier.
  • Check that the selected trigger matches the event you created.

My Zap is on, but nothing is happening

  • Open Zapier Task History and check for errors.
  • Verify the Novella account connection in Zapier is still active.
  • Reconnect Novella if authentication has expired.

Disconnect Zapier

  1. 1. In Novella, go to Settings → Integrations.
  2. 2. In the Zapier section, click Disconnect Zapier.

You can also remove the Novella connection from your connected accounts in Zapier.

Do not use Zapier to auto-post survey responses to social media

Novella's Zapier integration can pull open-text responses, ratings, and respondent metadata directly into other apps. Do not build a Zap that posts these fields to social media (Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.), even for positive reviews or testimonials.

Open-text comments often contain personal information the respondent never intended to publish: names, email addresses, company details, or specific complaints tied to an individual. Posting this content automatically, without review, can expose PII and put you in breach of GDPR, since you no longer have a lawful basis for that further processing.

If you want to share positive feedback publicly:

  • Route responses through a manual review step before anything goes out
  • Strip or redact identifying details from the text
  • Get explicit consent from the respondent before using their words publicly
  • Consider using only the numeric score, not the comment field, in any automated flow

If you're already running a Zap like this, turn it off and audit what has been posted so far.
